Push Plate History

Push Plates with an Angel DesignPush plates were designed well over one hundred and fifty years ago. With the Industrial Revolution in full swing and the emergence of the Victorian era of architecture, the push plate quickly developed into an extension of art, taking on the popular designs of the time.

The Victorian era brought with it a new sensibility of elaborate ornamental hardware design. Many of these older styles are being reproduced at the present time and used in both residential and commercial applications. Current push plates in production reflect Victorian, Arts and Crafts, American traditional, and more utilitarian designs.
